The following entry illustrates Hilmi’s passion in linguistics. He’s now doing a PhD in Phonetics & Phonology and dealing with Prosodic Transfer or, in other words, Accented English. If you are a Kelantanese speaking like this, Hilmi is more than happy to recruit you as his research subjects.

“If I speak like Amerikeng My freng say they keng smell budu”
glad you noticed it, yu ying
i have students (in Kelate, of course) who tried hard to speak the language, ended up speaking just like “illustrated” above.
some people said, DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
but I believe in PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. So, I enjoyed myself talking to them, and getting feedback from them. I even imitated them and laughed at ourselves ‘together-gather’.
=)
how’s Melbourne? My place of dream…………………… insya ALLAH for my phD, coming…~~
Dear Anayilnur,
I’m glad you had fun with your students. It’s a serious fun for some people.
Melbourne is waiting for your dream. Bring it on!
yeah!
but doing MA is not as fun as expected =(
I’m losing my ‘magic touch’. And it gets worse everyday!
*sigh*
by the way, I’m a kelate-girl too. I don’t mean you’re a girl. Haha!
Just brave through the challenge. Magic happens when you don’t realize that it happens.
it’s happening after close to a year. But it’s happening. Thank you. PhD on the way!
Whoa. Good luck for that, but don’t tell me later that you haven’t been warned!
ha..ha..I like this…The budu is in the air. I undestang wat u say. Ok la tu for tu wei komunikesen…ha..ha…
More to come!
I’m doing my MA in Applied Linguistic. I’m using your articles on Kelantan dialect as u r the only one who talk about it (we were assigned to find 3 articles for sosiolinguictic which we think interesting to talk about). Well, I never thought that I would come across the articles about Kelantan dialect in ‘such a way’ that is interesting to be exploited . Thanks to you..
Glad we are on the same boat. I hope you’ll survive the ride. It’s fun!
My boat is rocking but still paddling it…ha…ha…senok otok meta-meta…x tubik nak buat ayat…huh….working on it..
Keep rocking sista!
awesome!..last time we only did small assignment of kelantan dialect in linguistics subject..good or you to explore this KELATELISH..so funny..
Thanks. I hope it’s still funny after 3 years of PhD.
the funny things of it are more to be explored and perhaps 3 years would be enough..rite..goodluck!
