Marked Christmas
I met Mark two months ago on Melbourne University campus and we quickly became friends. He is a devout Catholic who is now in the process of transforming himself towards becoming a better man, physically and spiritually (he said he needs to get rid of his “prosperous” belly really badly, haha). This forty-year old Aussie man always talks openly about his “beastly” sins and his miraculous ways of getting all the bad spirits out of his body. It’s a marvel to listen to his random ramblings about Prophets and all that religious stuff, the things that I have always known and taken them for granted. We might come from two different worlds, but deep down, we both share something brotherly in common – the HOPE for a better life through the love of God.
Speaking of God’s love, I received a Christmas present from him recently, which was totally unexpected since, apparently, I don’t celebrate Christmas. But what he wrote in the greeting card was really celebratory:
To Hilmi,
Enjoy the love of God this Christmas. I’m so glad to meet you and get to know you better over the last two months. Thank you for putting up with my weaknesses. May God bless you to study well and enjoy happiness everyday of your life. Sorry for being such a beast, I will try to improve my behaviour!
Peace and Joy to you. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
Love,
Mark
