Ethical Chaos
After more than four months digging into all sorts of theories and philosophies behind human sounds, I’m now ready for my own first laboratory experiment on geminates, the so-called double consonants in Kelantan. But before doing that, I was reminded by Janet, “Go and get your research ethics approved first!” I was like, what? Research ethics? Don’t you think my experiment is safe enough? Are there human tissues involved? I don’t think so. But yes, rumour has it that to get an approval for research ethics, especially at the University of Melbourne, could be a pain in the ass. It could take months to review my project so that it is carried out in accordance with The University’s Code of Conduct for Research, The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, and The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. Ayyo… I’m dealing with a monster here. I keep my fingers crossed.
