Yasmin

I was sitting on the bench waiting for the next tram when I found this flyer flying under my feet. And the crumpled flyer came with a stern caps-locked warning, “DO NOT LITTER.” The sponsors must be disappointed if I honestly answer in their questionnaire that I got the information about Malaysia Week 2009 from the street, literally.
Yes, Malaysia Week 2009 has kicked off its ‘wet’ start on Sunday at Queensbridge Square. I was among the freezing audience who was bedazzled by performances of traditional dances and games. Kudos to all energetic performers who were all smiles amidst the cold weather, promoting the concept of Malaysian Hospitality. But the highlight of this event will be the Australian Malaysian Film Festival which pays tribute to the late Yasmin Ahmad. I can’t wait to watch Yasmin’s most controversial film Muallaf on the last night of the festival.
“I am confident that this will go a long way to contribute towards better understanding between Malaysia and Australia,” said Dato’ Salman Ahmad, the High Commissioner for Malaysia, in the official program book. I just hope he’s damn right.
